Throughout my career my job has caused intense emotions, sadness, emptiness, shock, guilt, and even regret. While life may never be quite the same, it was time for me to look to the future and move forward with my life, with hope and optimism.
It was a late evening night, after a long 16 hours of work, dealing with some of the most dangerous people. I was tired and extremely overwhelmed and couldn’t wait to lay down and go to sleep.
As I returned home from work, long tiring hour drive and having to return to work just a few hours later, my oldest son (Andrew) was outside in the front yard, garage door open, hanging out with several of his close’s friends, playing games.
The fact that my son had a giant smile on his face, and everyone was having what I believed was a great time, my attitude from tiredness and fatigue immediately changed.
I exited my vehicle and stood in the driveway, just outside the garage, I felt the release of stress, anxiety, and even a little bit of anger just falls off my shoulders. I immediately felt like a totally different person. Without a doubt in my mind, God’s plans for me in my life, were going to change drastically. As I stood there watching my son play Beer Pong, he threw a ping pong ball, which rebounded off my toolbox, and returned landing inside a cup located in front of him. I thought to myself, what if I came up with a game that was different from all other games.
The next morning, while I was at work, I used a pencil and sketched my new idea out onto a piece of paper. I’m not an artist, but it actually to my surprise come out looking fantastic. I secured the sketch in my front pants pocket and showed nobody. A few days later, I finally had a day off from work. That night I couldn’t sleep, I just kept thinking over and over about my idea. Once the early morning hours arrived, I drove straight to Home Depot in Lancaster Ca, stood in the lumber department contemplating on what type of lumber/wood I needed to complete my new idea/game. I could not believe how much the cost of lumber/wood cost, but that was not going to discourage/prevent me from achieving my goal. After about an hour, I acquired the supplies I needed, got into my truck and drove straight to my dad’s house.
That’s when I started building my new idea/game in my dad’s backyard called, Rebound Cup. Upon completion of the build, to my belief, I was thrilled how the completion of the design originated.
I contacted my nephew (Carson) who was currently living with my dad. My nephew Carson just graduated high school from Coeur d’Alene Idaho and was not working. I asked him if he was interested in starting a business with myself. I explained to him about my new idea/game and without hesitation he said, “Yes.” That’s when Rebound Cup, an exciting, competitive, challenging and entertaining game, for families, and friends came to life.
